The Eagles Put Day Two of the Gopher Invitational in the Books

EMU completed the second day in Minneapolis
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (EMUEagles.com) – Eastern Michigan University's tennis team completed the second day of the 2014 Gopher Invitational Saturday, Sept. 20, at the Baseline Tennis Center. The Eagles saw action in both doubles and singles action.
In doubles action, Klara Supejova and Andrea Martinovska took home their first match of the first draw, 8-5, by defeating Nell Boyd and Jordan Eggleston of Drake, before dropping an 8-7 match to Lauren Chypyha and Maria Avgerinos from Wisconsin. Ani Gogvadze and Maria Paula Ribero took down Cristina Alvarez and Jennifer Gates, 8-3. In the next round Gogvadze and Ribero fell, 8-3, Kendall Heitzner and Maja Vijic in the first place match of the ninth draw. Daphne Friedrichs and Alejandra Barcelo Almoyna went strut through draw 10, with a pair of victories. The duo knocked off South Dakota State's Tacy Haws-Lay and Maria Laura Velazco, 8-4, before an 8-3 win over Maria Rozo and Emily Stefancic of Northern Illinois.
Supejova dropped her opening match of Minnesota Flight Singles Draw, 6-1, 6-3, to Iowa's Morven McCulloch, before knocking off Florencia Mangl of South Dakota State, 6-3, 6-0, and Alysa Straub from Milwaukee, 6-0, 6-3. She is scheduled to square off with South Dakota's Milica Pavlovic on Sunday, Sept. 21. Gogvadze participated in the Gopher Flight for EMU. She fell to Kentucky's Taylor Lederman, 6-0, 6-2, before dropping a three-setter, 2-5, 6-4, 1-0 (2), to Boyd.
Friedrichs first dropped a 6-1, 6-1 decision to Ellen Silver of Iowa before winning two straight. She knocked off South Dakota State's Ffion Davies, 6-2, 6-0, before dropping Heitzner, 7-6 (4), 6-3. Barcelo Almoyna dropped her opening match, 7-6 (1), 6-1, to Haws-Lay in the Gold Flight. Almoyna came back to defeat Nothern Illinois' Stephanie Mcdonald, 6-1,6-4, but fell, 6-4, 7-5, to South Dakota's Dragana Brankovic.
