Four Eagles Garner CSCAA Honorable Mention Scholar All-America Accolades

Dark, Dorszewski, Henry, and Hulvey honored for work in and out of the pooll

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com)—Following the release of the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) NCAA Division I Scholar All-American Teams supported by Nike Swim last week, the CSCAA has released the Individual Scholar All-America awards.  Four Eagles between Eastern Michigan University's men's and women's swimming and diving programs were awarded the Honorable Mention Scholar All-America honor, as Lauren Dark (Chelsea, Mich.-Chelsea), Monica Dorszewski (Palatine, Ill.-Palatine), Andrew Henry (Garner, N.C.-West Johnston), and Danielle Hulvey (Pickerington, Ohio-Central) were named to the respective teams. 
 
The Honorable Mention Scholar All-America award is presented to college and university swimmers and divers who have achieved a grade point average of 3.5 or higher for the semester, or cumulative average, and have achieved a "B" time standard but did not qualify or compete in their respective national championship. Divers qualify by competing at their respective championship qualifying meets, zones or NCAA preliminary rounds.
 
Dark finished in the top-four in either the 1 or 3-meter dive in eight meets, claiming a victory on the 1-meter twice and the 3-meter on three occasions.  Her high score on the 1-meter springboard came in a victory against Northwestern University and the University of Illinois, where she amassed 294.15 points.  Dark's best 3-meter dive was produced at the 2014 MAC Championships, Feb. 27-March 1, as the then-junior racked up 337.35 points for third place. The local product from Chelsea, Mich. is majoring in exercise science with a 3.60 GPA.
 
Dorszewski earns Academic All-MAC honors for the first time in her career after capping off a stellar junior season.  The Palatine, Ill. native was named to the All-MAC Second Team at the 2014 MAC Swimming and Diving Championships, Feb. 27-March 1.  The then-junior wrote her name atop EMU laurels in the 100 breast after claiming third with a 1:02.22 finish, while her fourth-place time of 2:15.48 earned her the second spot on the all-time list.  Dorszewski was the only Eagle to notch a pair of NCAA B-cut times at the conference meet.  She was dominant in the 100 breast throughout the regular season, claiming victory in 11 of her 12 appearances, while picking up an additional seven wins in the 200 breast.  The junior holds a 3.47 GPA in speech pathology.
 
The lone representative for the men's team, Henry was honored twice by the conference as the MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week on Jan. 9 and Jan. 27.  Additionally, he earned MAC Swimmer of the Week honors on Dec. 9 and Jan. 27 before being named to the All-MAC First Team at the conference championships.  The Garner, N.C. native was on the runner-up 400 and 800 free relay teams and also took third in both the 200 and 400 IM, finishing in 1:47.38 and 2:57.54, respectively.  During the regular season, he claimed victories in the 200 free five times and won the 200 IM four times.  On Jan. 24, he showed versatility when he won both the 100 and 1000 free against Wayne State University, for which he was awarded his second MAC Swimmer and MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week honors.  Henry holds a 3.76 GPA in construction management.  
 
A biology major with a 3.52 GPA, Hulvey was an All-MAC First Team honoree after being named the MAC's Most Outstanding Diver for the second consecutive season.  She finished first in the 1-meter dive at the MAC Championships and took fourth in the 3-meter dive.  In her nine times contesting the 1-meter dive during the regular season, The graduated redshirt-senior won the event a total of eight times, and she also claimed victory on the 3-meter springboard six times.  Her season-high score on the 1-meter springboard came against Wayne State, Jan. 24, when she recorded a 349.13, and her season-high of 342.70 points in the 3-meter dive was against Ball State, Jan. 25.  Hulvey ended her career as an Eagle with a pair of seventh-place finishes at the NCAA Zone C Diving Championships, March 13-14.
