—Eastern Michigan University's women's track and field team had its representative in the heptathlon, Sarah Chauchard (Montpellier, France-University of Montpellier) complete her seven-event slate with a fifth-place finish at the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships, June 13.

Chauchard finished with 5,638 points in the heptathlon, which is a personal record for the senior and is the second-highest score in EMU history behind Lela V. Nelson's historic 5,878-point effort in 2005.  This year's NCAA champion was Kendall Williams of Georgia, who also claimed the 2014 indoor pentathlon title in an outstanding rookie season.

In her three events for the day, Chauchard set personal records in two, while coming extremely close in the opening long jump.  The French native leapt 5.71 meters/18 feet 8.75-inches, just one centimeter off her personal-best mark, to tie for second in the competition.  She then tacked on nearly four meters to her javelin throw, finishing eighth with a throw of 40.77 meters/133 feet 9-inches.  Her throw also goes down as the sixth-farthest throw in program history by an Eagle.

Another personal record in the 800m run bolstered Chauchard's score enough for her to garner a top-eight finish, as she crossed the line in 2:15.25.  In her only year at EMU, Chauchard's fifth-place performance gives her First Team All-American honors for the second time in her short career as an Eagle, as she garnered first team honors for a sixth-place finish in the indoor pentathlon.

One more athlete has yet to compete on the final day, June 14.  Mid-American Conference high jump runner-up Kate Wolanin (Oxford, Mich.-Oxford) will take on the national field of competitors tomorrow at 12:45 p.m. PDT.

Results from the final day of action at Hayward Field will be available through flashresults.com, while ESPN3 will carry the live broadcast both on television and through WatchESPN.
