Eagle All-Access broadcaster to be honored at the 53rd Annual Alumni Awards, June 14

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – Ryan Wooley, the afternoon sports anchor on 97.1 WXYT "The Ticket" and play-by-play voice on Eagle All-Access, will be honored at the 53rd Annual Eastern Michigan University Alumni Awards Saturday, June 14. Wooley, a 2007 graduate of EMU with a bachelor of arts degree in Electronic Media and Film Studies, will be presented with the Outstanding Young Alumni Award.

The award is presented to alumni whose achievements have been signified by personal honors bestowed upon them by their peers and who have demonstrated the worth of their education through their post-college achievements. Generally, recipients have been graduates of EMU for less than 10 years.

While a student, Wooley served as a news anchor for Eastern Weekly, co-created and hosted "The Eastern Sports Report," was a play-by-play anchor for EMU football and men's and women's basketball on E-TV, was a three-year member of the EMU Marching Band, a four-year member of the EMU Basketball Band, and a member of the National Honorary Band Fraternity, Kappa Kappa Psi. He was also the recipient of the J. Clarence and Courtney S. Fountain Sportscasters Scholarship.

The Belleville, Mich. resident continued his involvement in EMU sports after graduation as a color commentator for EMU basketball for WEMU (89.1 FM) and remains involved as a play-by-play women's basketball announcer on Eagle All-Access.

In 2013, Wooley was awarded by the Michigan Association of Broadcasters "2012 Broadcast Excellence Award for Sportscast of the Year" for his June 2012 coverage of the Grand Prix on Belle Isle track issue. He also received the "2012 Broadcast Excellence Merit Award for World Series Sportscast" for his coverage of the Detroit Tigers four-game sweep of the New York Yankees in October 2012.

Wooley continues to give back to his local community of Westland. He remains the play-by-play voice of the John Glenn High School football team for station WLND, a Westland Government Access Station. He also maintains a small business as a DJ and volunteers his services for the Detroit Zoo's "Walk for Wishes" program, which grants wishes to children with life-threatening illnesses.

Others to be honored at the event include: Alexander Simpson (Outstanding Young Alumni Award Recipient), Michael Boulus (Distinguished Alumni Award Recipient), Regina Michael Campbell (Distinguished Alumni Award Recipient) and Timothy Dyer (Dr. John W. Porter Distinguished Service Award Recipient)
