YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — The Eastern Michigan University Department of Athletics continued its strong academic performance in the latest Academic Progress Rate report, as released by the NCAA Tuesday, May 5.

The APR scores represent a four-year composite, covering the 2021-22, 2022-23, 2023-24, and 2024-25 academic years, and provide a real-time snapshot of the academic success of scholarship student-athletes. The APR measures academic eligibility, retention, and graduation.

Every Division I sports team calculates its APR each academic year, similar to a report card. Each term, scholarship student-athletes earn one point for remaining academically eligible and one point for staying enrolled or graduating.

"We hold our programs to a high academic standard, and our student-athletes continue to meet it," EMU Vice President/Director of Athletics Scott Wetherbee said. "This report shows steady progress across multiple teams and strong accountability in the classroom. Our staff builds the structure, and our student-athletes follow through every day."

Eastern Michigan saw two programs achieve a perfect 1,000 multiyear APR score in the latest report, with men's cross country and women's golf earning top marks. In total, eight programs recorded multiyear scores of 990 or higher, highlighting consistent academic achievement across the department.

Women's lacrosse posted a 997, while women's gymnastics followed at 995. Women's soccer recorded a 993, and women's tennis added a 991. Women's volleyball finished at 989, while men's golf reached 990. Men's basketball and football each recorded marks of 978.

In the most recent single-year data for 2024-25, five programs earned a perfect score of 1,000: men's cross country, men's golf, women's golf, women's gymnastics, and women's lacrosse. Football posted a 996, while women's swimming recorded a 991. Several other programs posted strong single-year marks, including baseball and women's volleyball at 990.

Additionally, 13 of EMU's 17 programs posted multiyear APR scores of 975 or higher. All programs remained above the NCAA's 930 benchmark, the threshold required to maintain postseason eligibility.

The NCAA's APR system continues to serve as a key measure of academic performance across Division I athletics. Over time, national APR averages have improved, reflecting a continued emphasis on academic success and degree completion among student-athletes.
