YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University rowing squad will be one-of-five teams vying for the 2014 Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Rowing Championship. In only its second season in the CAA, EMU will compete at the Mercer County Park in Mercer County, N.J. Sunday, May 18.
The championship begins with the Varsity 4 race at 10 a.m. followed by the Second Varsity 8 at 10:10 a.m. The Varsity 8 competition follows at 10:20 a.m., with an awards ceremony at the conclusion of the event. There is no admission charge or parking fee for the championships.
EMU, the University of Delaware and Drexel University are all in search of their first conference titles, while Northeastern has claimed the title three times and the University at Buffalo and Boston University have each been crowned champions once.
The Eagles competed in their first ever CAA Championships in the 2013 season, tying for fifth with Delaware. EMU placed fifth in the Varsity 4 and Second Varsity 8 races, while finishing sixth in the Varsity 8 race. Boston earned the title with 32 points, defeating back-to-back champion Northeastern. KC Anderson was the loneEagle to grab all-conference honors as she was named to the All-CAA Team following the event.
"The girls are learning just how much work is involved in building a championship caliber program and it's not a "fast process", said Head Coach Brad Holdren. "Fourth place or better will be a good end result for us, anything better than that is just icing on the cake."
