Box Score

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) –
The Eastern Michigan University women's tennis team was downed for the first time in Mid-American Conference play Friday, April 11, when the Eagles (12-7, 5-1 MAC) fell, 4-3, at the Claudia Wasik Tennis Complex to the reigning MAC Champion, Miami University.

In the doubles round, Eastern used a pair of victories to earn the first point of the match. The first match to conclude was at the No. 1 court, where Nino Mebuke and Klara Supejova defeated Alix Thurman and Chritine Guerazzi, 8-3, to win their third-straight match as a duo. Miami evened up the doubles score at one apiece when Andrea Badileanu and Nimisha Mohan knocked off Diana Davitaia and Maria Paula Ribero at No. 2, 8-2. Daphne Friedrichs and Mariya Toncheva completed the Eagles win in doubles play with an 8-3 victory over Ramona Costea and Christiana Raymond. The No. 3 win was Friedrichs' first doubles match since the Eagles' match with Illinois State University, Feb. 15.

In singles play, the Eagles saw Mebuke get on the board first, picking up a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 3 to put EMU up 2-0. Next to finish was the No. 4 match where Toncheva dropped a two-setter, 7-5, 6-0, to Miami's Thurman. The RedHawks then tied up the match when Friedhrichs suffered a 6-3, 7-5 setback at No. 5 to Guerazzi. At No. 1, Supejova fell behind one set to Mohan, but battled back to send it to a third set. In set three, Mohan cruised to a 6-2 win, giving Miami a 3-2 lead. Davitaia was next on the docket and finished off Badileanu, 7-5, 6-2, leaving it up to Ribero in the No. 6 slot. Ribero was unable to keep Ana Rajkovic at bay, dropping a three-set thriller, 5-7, 6-1, 6-3.

"I'm proud of the way we competed today," "We just fell a little bit short. I expect us to rebound and play with a lot of intensity tomorrow."

Eastern returns to action Saturday, April 12, when it hosts Ball State University at the Claudia Wasik Tennis Complex. First serve is slated for 1 p.m.
