Women's Golf Sits in Sixth Heading Into Final Day of Rio Verde Invite

RIO VERDE, Ariz. (EMUEagles.com) -- The Eastern Michigan University women's golf team fell to sixth place on day two of the 12th Annual Rio Verde Invitational, carding a 616 (301-315) on the par 71, 6,209-yard Quail Run Course at the Rio Verde Country Club Saturday, March 8.
Senior Corey Crossan (London, Ontario, Canada-Mother Teresa Catholic Secondary School) led the Green and White through the second round, shooting a 77 with an eagle on the final hole to tie for 23rd overall and a day two total of 153 (76-77).
Freshman Kelsey Murphy (Plymouth, Mich.-Plymouth) leads all EMU golfers, shooting a 152 (74-78) through two rounds to tie for 18th overall, while sophomore Karyn Lee Ping (Brampton, Ontario, Canada-St. Augustine Secondary School) fired a second round score of 79 and sits at a tie for 31st with a 156 (77-79).
Lois Schoof (Amsterdam, Netherlands-Univ. of Amsterdam) is third for the Eagles and tied for 27th overall with a 155 (74-81) and Sylvie Williams (Christchurch, New Zealand-Christchurch Girls School-Lincoln) rounds out the EMU scoring, shooting matching 83s in the first two rounds for a total of 166 (83-83).
Xavier took over the lead on day two of the tournament, carding a team total 601 (303-298) as Shane Crutchfield leads all golfers with a 148 (73-75). Witchita State is just two shots behind the Musketeers with 603 (299-304). The Green and White is just behind two Mid-American Conference rivals as Western Michigan is in fourth overall shooting a 610 (303-307) and Toledo is in fifth, carding a 612 (308-304).
Eastern will close out the Rio Verde Invitational Sunday, March 9, with tee time scheduled for 8 a.m.
