EMU Scholar Athletes Recognized at Men's Hoops Game

EMU had 345 scholar athletes which is 67 percent of all EMU student-athletes

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — Eastern Michigan University recognized 345 scholar athletes at halftime of the men's basketball game versus Ball State University, March 4. While the accolades were being announced to the crowd, the large flock of Eagles posed for a group picture.

To be a scholar athlete, a student must have a 3.0 grade point average or higher. The conclusion of the 2013 Fall semester showed that 345 Eagles met the requirement to be a scholar athlete, making up 67 percent of all student-athletes at EMU. All 21 sports were represented and the average GPA of an Eastern Michigan scholar athlete was 3.47. There were 31 student-athletes who posted 4.0 GPAs during the 2013 Fall semester while 363, or 66.6 percent, had 3.0 or better GPAs.

The Fall 2013 cumulative GPA for all student-athletes was 3.189, which ranked as the third highest in EMU history. However,  the 2013 Fall semester GPA was a 3.159, the highest tally in history beating out a 3.147 GPA set in the Fall 2011 semester.
