Lindsay Rich allowed just two runs in the loss

ANN ARBOR, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University softball team dropped its fifth-straight contest, falling 2-1 to the University of Akron at the Wilpon Complex on the campus of the University of Michigan Sunday, March 30.

The Eagles fall to 8-21 overall on the season and 0-4 in Mid-American Conference play. Meanwhile, Akron improves to 15-6 overall and 2-0 in the MAC.

Aoife Duffy led the EMU offense with two hits and one run, while Lindsay Smith tallied one RBI for the Eagles. Junior Lindsay Rich (3-10, 0-2 MAC) suffered the loss in the circle pitching her 10th complete game with three strikeouts.

Erin Seiler (9-2, 2-0 MAC) grabbed her second conference victory, throwing all seven innings against the Eagles, while the Zip offense brought in two runs on eight hits with Chelsea Wildey notching the only RBi of for UA.

A first pitch double to the right center wall and a single to a shallow left center knocked in the Zips first run of the contest before the Eagles retired the final two outs of the inning without any further damage. Akron used a second double in the top of the second inning that would lead to a 2-0 advantage when a a bases-loaded Eastern error allowed pinch runner Savannah Fruin to cross home for the Zips.

Eastern used a pair of doubles of its own in the bottom of the third when Duffy lined a double to right center before Smith ripped a double to the left center wall, bringing in Duffy.

The Green and White left runners stranded in third through fifth innings, unable to push the tying run across the plate. With two outs on the board, Duffy kept the Eagles alive with her second hit of the afternoon on a shot to right field but the EMU offense could not get a two-out rally going falling 2-1 for the second-straight day to the Zips.

Eastern will hit the road for the 26th time this season when it heads to Valparaiso, Ind. to take on the Crusaders in a mid-week doubleheader Wednesday, April 2. First pitch of game one is slated for 3 p.m.
