Men's Golf Wraps Up Day One of USF Invitational

Eagles tied for 13th after first round of the tournament

DADE CITY, Fla. (EMUEagles.com) — Eastern Michigan University's men's golf team concluded its first day of competition against the formidable field of the University of South Florida Invitational tied for 13th out of 17 competing teams. The Eagles carded a combined five-over par 293 on the par-72 7,153-yard course in the first round of competition and are currently tied with DePaul University and the University of Cincinnati.
Brett White (Caledonia, Mich.-East Kentwood) leads the Eagles at the close of the first day after shooting an even-par 72 to tie for 36th in the 90-competitor pool. Kyle Rodes (Plymouth, Mich.-Plymouth) shot one-over par on the day (73) to sit in a tie for 45th, while Michael Blair (Ancaster, Ontario, Canada-Nelson-Pfeiffer) and Brian Churchill-Smith (Oakville, Ontario, Canada-Oakville Trafalgar) are in a tie for 58th after carding a two-over par 74. Joey Kremer (Toronto, Ontario, Canada-Senator O'Connor) rounded out the Eagle lineup in a tie for 74th after shooting a four-over par 76.
University of North Carolina-Greensboro's Roy Dixon is the sole leader of the day's competition, edging out No. 21 Brian Campbell of Illinois after carding a nine-under par round of 63. UNCG currently shares the lead with No. 20 Florida State University as both squads recorded for a 13-under par (275) tally.
The 54-hole event will resume play tomorrow, March 3, with a 9 a.m. start on the 10th hole. Kremer will tee off for the Green and White at 10:40, paired up with Jake McGlone of UNCG and Alex Burge of No. 7 Illinois. Live results can be viewed via golfstat.com
