YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University rowing team jump starts its 2014 campaign with a dual against Clemson on Lake Hartwell in Clemson S.C. at 9 a.m. Saturday, March 1.
This year's dual will mark the sixth-straight season the Eagles have opened up against Clemson and the ninth time in 10 years. The Tigers have placed higher than the Green and White in each of the 16 races between the two squads over the past five seasons as Clemson finished first in three of the five races against both Duke and EMU one year ago.
The Eagles capped off their 2013 campaign with a pair of fifth-place finishes from the Varsity Fours and Second Varsity Eights crews, tying for fifth with the University of Delaware at the Colonial Athletic Association Championships, May 19, 2013. Senior KC Anderson was named to the All-CAA and All-Central Region Second Team for her efforts at the championships, while seven Eagles were named Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) National Scholar Athletes.
Clemson closed out the 2013 campaign ranked 18th in the nation after placing second at the ACC Championships, recording five first-place finishes over ranked opponents which marked the third-most in a single season in Tiger history.
Eastern and Clemson faced off in the fall season at the Head of the Oklahoma where the Tigers won three of the four races they competed in and the Eagles placed 12th in the women's collegiate 8+ while turning out 22nd and 24th-place finishes in the women's collegiate 4+, Oct. 5, 2013.
