Women's Golf Completes Westbrook Invitational

PEORIA, Ariz. (EMUEagles.com) -- The Eastern Michigan University women's golf team improved to 13th-place as it completed the final round of the Westbrook Invitational on the par-72, 6,269-yard Westbrook Village Golf Club course Monday, Feb. 24. The Eagles shot a three round total of 884 (295-298-291) to finish just one stroke ahead of Tulsa.
The Green and White closed out the tournament with its lowest round total of the season, carding a 291 (+3) and besting the 295 (+7) that EMU shot in round one of the Westbrook Invitational just one day prior.
No. 35 Ohio State grabbed hold of first-place after trailing No. 19 Oregon on day one of the invitational. The Buckeyes shot an 838 (281-278-279) through three rounds, while Jessica Porvasnik of OSU grabbed the individual first-place title, carding a 203 (65-67-71).
Senior Corey Crossan (London, Ontario, Canada-Mother Teresa Catholic Secondary School) finished out strong for Eastern, tying for 18th overall with a 75 third round score for a 217 (70-72-75) total. The total was a season-best for Crossan as well as a career-best, topping her 224 at the 2013 MAC Championships, while it also marks the fourth time in the London, Ontario native's career in which she has placed in the top-20 overall.
Karyn Lee Ping (Brampton, Ontario, Canada-St. Augustine Secondary School) moved up in the overall standings, tying for 29th with a 219 (72-75-72). Freshman Kelsey Murphy (Plymouth, Mich.-Plymouth) came in third for the Eagles and moved up to a tie for 33rd, shooting two under par in the final round. Murphy concluded the tournament with a final card score of 220 (75-75-70), while Sylvie Williams (Christchurch, New Zealand-Christchurch Girls School-Lincoln) posted a 228 (78-76-74) and tied for 69th overall.
Redshirt-junior Lois Schoof (Amsterdam, Netherlands-Univ. of Amsterdam) rounded out the scoring for EMU, grabbing a 235 (79-80-76) for the invitational.
The Eagles will be back in action when they compete in the 12th Annual Rio Verde Collegiate Invitational, March 7-8, in Rio Verde, Ariz.
