Women's Golf Finishes Day One of Westbrook Invitational

PEORIA, Ariz. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University women's golf team completed day one of the Westbrook Invitational on the par-72, 6,269-yard Westbrook Village Golf Club course Sunday, Feb. 23. After day one of the tournament, the Eagles sit in 14th place after tallying a team score of 593 (295-298) through the first 36 holes of play.
Perfect conditions led to record scores as the players had sunny weather, little wind and moderate temperatures in the 70s. Senior Corey Crossan (London, Ontario, Canada-Mother Teresa Catholic Secondary School) led the Green and White on day one shooting a two-under par 142 (70-72) as she currently is tied for 10th. During the opening round, Crossan eagled the par 4 ninth hole.
Meanwhile Karyn Lee Ping (Brampton, Ontario, Canada-St. Augustine Secondary School) is tied for 36th after carding a three-over 147 (72-75).
Freshman Kelsey Murphy (Plymouth, Mich.-Plymouth) comes in third for Eastern and ties for 56th overall with a 150 (75-75) through the first two rounds and Sylvie Williams (Christchurch, New Zealand-Christchurch Girls School-Lincoln) is in 72nd overall after shooting a 154 (78-76) on day one of the Westbrook Challenge. Redshirt-junior Lois Schoof (Amsterdam, Netherlands-Univ. of Amsterdam) rounded out the scoring for EMU, notching a 159 (79-80) through the first two rounds of action.
Ohio State's Jessica Porvasnik sits as the individual leader through two rounds at 132 (65-67), while Oregon leads all teams shooting a 553 (279-274). In the process, Oregon set a new 18-hole team record shooting a 274 in the second round. The Ducks also set the tournament's 36-hole record by 17 strokes as the old record was 570 set by Illinois during the 2012 event.
Teams will conclude play Monday, Feb. 24, with the final 18 holes of the tournament. Live stats of the Westbrook Spring Invitational can be followed at www.golfstat.com and results will be posted on EMUEagles.com at the conclusion of play.
