Klara Supejova was the only Eagle to win a singles match

LINCOLN, Neb. (EMUEagles.com) – After dropping a road dual with the University of Nebraska Friday, Feb. 14, the Eastern Michigan University tennis team squared off with Illinois State University Saturday, Feb. 15, in the same venue as the night before. The Eagles (6-5) however found themselves on the short end again, this time by way of a 6-1 decision, falling for the third-straight match in a row.

Daphne Friedrichs and Zsofia Biro started things off strong in doubles for the Green and White by dispatching Heather Nisbet and Kadi Llves by an easy 8-1 score at No. 3 doubles. The Redbirds then won the next two doubles matches as Maria Paula Ribero and Mariya Toncheva fell, 8-2, at the hands of Emmie Marx and Sierra Stone, while Nino Mebuke and Klara Supejova were upended, 8-6, at the No. 1 spot by Phyllis Tigges and Madie Baillon.

Supejova was the only bright spot for Eastern in the singles round, coming away with an easy, 6-1, 6-4, win over Marx in the No. 1-singles match. Eastern dropped the remaining five singles matches, as Mebuke took one set versus Tigges at the No. 2 spot and Biro took Llves to a third set, but both fell up just short of their opponent.

"We ran into a hot team today, and the performance on our side was not strong," remarked Head Coach Ryan Ray. "All we can do is get back to work and get better, and we will overcome this."

The Eagles are off until Tuesday, Feb. 25, when they travel south to take on Stetson University. The match will begin at 2:30 p.m. in DeLand, Fla.
