Women's Hoops Welcomes Hillsdale to the Convo Tuesday

YPSILANTI, Mich. -- The Eastern Michigan University women's basketball team returns to the friendly confines of the Convocation Center Tuesday, Nov. 25 for a mid-week non-conference affair against the Chargers of Hillsdale College. Tipoff is slated for 7 p.m.
The Eagles fell to 1-2 on the season after dropping two-straight contests on the road, while the Chargers are 2-0 on the young season, picking up victories over the University of Illinois-Springfield, 92-62, and McKendree University, 71-61, at the GLIAC/GLVC Challenge in Sault St. Marie, Mich., Nov. 14-15.
ALL-TIME AGAINST THE CHARGERS: The mid-week contest between the Eagles and the Chargers will mark the first time the two in-state foes have met in the history of the programs.
SCOUTING HILLSDALE: The Chargers returned from a two-day trip to the Upper Peninsula with an unblemished record, bringing home two wins in the GLIAC/GLVC Challenge. As a team, Hillsdale is scoring 20 more points per contest than its opponent as it averages 81.5 points per game and keeps opposing teams to just 61.5 points.
HC is led by 2013-14 All-American Megan Fogt who is averaging 22.0 points per contest scoring 18 and 26 points in the first two games, respectively. Freshman Allie Dittmer is the only other Charger averaging double-digit scoring through the first two games as she comes into the contest with the Eagles contributing 13 points per game for Hillsdale. Fogt also dominates on the boards for HC with 10 rebounds per contest, while Dittmer adds 6.5 rebounds per game.
As a team, the Chargers are shooting 47.6 percent from the floor, 36.4 percent from three-point land ,and out-rebounds its opponents 82-67.
ALL-TIME AGAINST THE GLIAC: Eastern Michigan is 22-9 all-time against the Bay City, Mich. based NCAA Division II conference. The Eagles have faced off against five different teams from the 14-team conference as Wayne State University has been the Green and White's most frequent opponent with 13 games between the two Southeast Michigan foes.
AGAINST NON-DIVISON I TEAMS: EMU's average margin of victory is 66 points in the team's nine games against non-Division I opponents since the 2007-08 campaign. The Eagles are averaging 105.3 points per game compared to 38.8 ppg for the opposition.
CAUSING MISCUES: The Eagles have made it difficult for their opposition to protect the ball, posting 45 steals in just three games for an average of 15 steals per contest. Freshman Sasha Dailey has contributed 13 steals in her first three games as an Eagle, while Janay Morton has swiped seven balls and Jamaica Bucknor, Cha Sweeney, and Shannise Heady have each added five apiece. As a team, the Green and White has had the ball stolen just 17 times and has committed 54 turnovers compared to the opposition's 71 turnovers.
SHOT HAPPY EAGLES: EMU wastes no time on its trips down the court as it is out-shooting its opponents 229-196 from the floor on the young season. The Eagles have taken 33 more shots from the floor than their first three opponents and are shooting 46.3 percent, while keeping teams to a 31.1 shooting percentage. However, the Green and White has been a little more conservative from three-point range, shooting just 36 times from beyond the arc compared to opponent's 82 trey attempts.
EVERYTHING IS BIGGER IN TEXAS: Junior Shannise Heady posted a career day for EMU at Texas-Pan American, Nov. 22, notching 20 points and 11 rebounds for her first career double-double. The Hazel Crest, Ill. native's previous career output was 19 points and nine boards in a WBI postseason contest against the University of Evansville, March 20, 2014.
GREEN AND WHITE DROPS CLOSE CONTEST WITH UTPA: With a five-point advantage and 11 minutes to play, the Eagles were unable to hold off a late surge by Texas-Pan American, falling 81-75 in its second-straight road contest of the 2014-15 season. The Broncs used a 22-8 run midway through the second half of play to edge out the Green and White in the non-conference contest.
HOME COURT ADVANTAGE: The Eagles have won 51 of the last 67 home games dating back to the 2008-09 season. Eastern Michigan has racked up a solid home-court advantage inside the friendly confines of the Convocation Center since the doors opened during the 1998-99 campaign. The Green and White has won 67.4 percent of the contests played in the building, piling up a 145-70 all-time mark.
ON THE HORIZON: Eastern Michigan will travel to Las Cruces, N.M. for the Hotel Encanto Thanksgiving Classic, Nov. 28-29. The Eagles will take on Cal State Fullerton Friday, Nov. 28 at 11 a.m. MT before going up against Weber State Saturday, Nov. 29 at 11 a.m. MT.
EMU AND THE IN-SEASON TOURNAMENT: Since winning three consecutive in-season tournaments during the 2004-05 campaign, the Eagles have struggled with a 6-12 record in the eight events since. The Eagles downed the University of Alabama, 52-43, in the opening game of the Fifth Annual Junkanoo Jam, Nov. 23, 2007, at St. George's High School in the Bahamas. The Green and White then posted an 83-67 victory over Hawai'i, Nov. 20, 2011, and a 79-68 win against Cal State Northridge, Nov. 21, 2011, at the Rainbow Wahine Classic in Honolulu, Hawai'i. In 2011-12, EMU downed Saint Louis, 66-55, in the opener of the Holiday Hoops Tournament in Seattle, Wash., Dec. 29. EMU fell to Tulane, 65-71, and Ole Miss, 58-61, at the 2012 DoubleTree Classic in New Orleans, La., Dec. 29-30.
Last season, EMU went 2-0 at the Seawolves Holiday Classic in Stony Brook, N.Y., Dec. 21-22. The Eagles edged Wagner, 69-56, and Monmouth, 64-53.
