Eastern Dismantles Rockets in 3-1 Victory at Savage Arena

Four Eagles came up with nine or more kills in the match
TOLEDO, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – Eastern Michigan University's volleyball team returned to form Saturday, Oct. 4, when the Eagles (11-7, 2-2 MAC) knocked off the University of Toledo in four sets. Eastern took the first two sets, 25-21, 25-20, before the Rockets (1-16, 0-4 MAC) won set three, 22-25, but the Green and White responded with a 25-15 victory in set four.
EMU spread out the offense as Stacey Perinar came up with a team-high 11 kills, while Katie Krasowski posted 10. Both Jill Briner and Megan Crawshaw each notched nine kills and Kelsey Jones added six of her own. Perinar posted a double-double with 13 digs. Briner continued her stellar setting skills with 37 assists.
Defensively, Crawshaw continued her journey to becoming the Eagles all-time block assist leader at EMU with six, while Corynne Smith notched 20 digs. In addition to Smith's numbers, Natalie Folk posted 19 digs, while Briner and Dori Harrison totaled 12 and 10, respectively.
Eastern posted a 25-21 win in set one while hitting .326. Perinar led the way with four kills and Briner, Jones and Krasowski each notched three. Smith led the Eagles with five digs on the other side of the net, while Folk added four in the frame. The Green and White held Toledo to a .213 hitting percentage in the opening frame.
Eastern's defense was the way to the Eagles' 25-20 win in set two. The Green and White held the Rockets to an .038 hitting percentage in the frame as Smith led the squad with seven digs. Folk added five and despite just one block, a solo from Krasowski, Eastern took down UT easily.
Toledo was able to respond in set three, holding the Eagles to an .085 attack percentage. Crawshaw was able to account for four of Eastern's 11 kills, while adding a pair of block assists. Toledo's Alex Hines notched 15 assists for the Rockets in Toledo's 22-25 set win.
EMU came out strong at the net defensively knocking down five of Toledo's attack attempts in the fourth set win, 25-15. Both Crawshaw and Jones stuffed totaled four block assists, while Perinar picked up five digs, along with Briner and Folk's four each. The Eagles held Toledo to an .071 attack percentage to come way with their second Mid-American Conference victory of the season.
The Green and White return to the Convocation Center Friday, Oct. 10, when it hosts Northern Illinois at to begin Homecoming Weekend at Eastern Michigan. The match is slated for 7 p.m. Friday evening before the Eagles welcome the Broncos of Western Michigan for the Oct. 11 Homecoming match at 7 p.m. Saturday evening.
