TOLEDO, Ohio (EMUEagles.com)—
Eastern Michigan University's women's swimming and diving team avenged last year's setback against Mid-American Conference foe the University of Toledo, claiming a 197-103 victory over the Rockets, Oct. 24.

The Eagles won 10-of-16 events and performed evenly across the board.  The squad started and ended the meet with a victory by claiming both the 200 medley and 400 free relays.  The medley lineup of Alexis Mitcheltree (Moon Twp., Pa.-Moon Area), Monica Dorszewski (Palatine, Ill.-Palatine), Carly Jackson (La Porte, Ind.-La Porte), and Sara Ghaffari (Bolinas, Sweden-Torsbergsgynasiet) touched the wall at 1:46.22, just .05 seconds ahead of the quartet of Mary Kate MacLean (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.-Detroit Country Day), Genna Worthley (Portland, Maine-Deering), Makenzie Garringer (Napoleon, Ohio-Napoleon), and Jessie Godlewski (Apex, N.C.-Apex) to finish first and second in the opening event.  In the meet-closing 400 free relay, the Eagles took the first and second spots again in another tight intersquad finish.  Dorszewski, Abby Saddler (Chanhassen, Minn.-Minnetonka), Ghaffari, and Jackson edged out Grace Van Allen (Indianapolis, Ind.-North Central), Becca Detro (Carmel, Ind.-Carmel), Godlewski, and Sierra Wagner (Huntsville, Texas-Huntsville).  The winning team recorded a time of 3:32.76, while the second Green and White lineup touched in at 3:32.91.

Butterfly events were dominated by the Green and White as the team won both the 100 and 200 fly.  Ghaffari took the title in the 100 fly in 57.01, followed by Godlewskiin 57.57.  In the 200 fly, Jackson edged out reigning two-time MAC champion Godlewski in 2:04.46, while Godlewski took runner-up in 2:05.06.

Wins also rolled in for the Green and White in the 50, 200, and 500 freestyle. MacLean won the 50 free in 24.30 and was closely followed by freshman Saddler her first meet donning the Eagle cap, who touched in at 24.32 for second.  Detro paced the Eagles in the 200 free, which was a 1-2-3 sweep for the team.  Detro finished well ahead of the field in 1:51.79, followed by Van Allen in 1:53.60 and Wagner in 1:54.48.  Van Allen went on to lead another sweep in the 500 free in 5:04.59.  Jackson was not far behind Van Allen in 5:05.22, while Allison Murslack (Gibsonia, Pa.-Pine-Richland) took the third spot in 5:06.86.

In the 100 free, MacLean was out-touched by a margin of just .11 seconds, earning the runner-up finish before Wagner and Detro would roll in within a .20-second span.  The 1000 free was paced by Murslack in 10:30.43, followed by Audra Burtch (Goshen, Ind.-Concord) in 10:36.63 and a career-best performance by Abby Aumiller (Canton, Mich.-Salem) in 10:38.70.

Wins were split between the Rockets and the Eagles in both the breaststroke and springboard diving.  In the 200 breast, Dorszewski claimed the win in 2:20.90 and was followed by a career record by Emily Wimmer (Hammond, Ind.-Munster) in 2:23.83 for the runner-up finish.  Dorszewski led the Eagles in the 100 breast as well, but fell to Sammy Richart with a mark of 1:04.37.

On the boards, Lauren Dark (Chelsea, Mich.-Chelsea) picked up the win in the 1-meter dive with a score of 256.65 points.  On the 3-meter springboard, the senior finished second with 213.98 points, followed by Karly Taylor (Munster, Ind.-Munster) in third with 205.20 points.

One more win came from Clarice Daniel (Belcamp, Md.-Homeschool), who set a personal record in the 200 IM in 2:10.24.  Rosalie Yockey (DeWitt, Mich.-DeWitt) also appeared in her debut performance for the Green and White, taking third in 2:12.36.  The backstroke events were the only ones that were swept by the Rockets during the evening's meet.  Mitcheltree led the team by taking runner-up in both events, notching a mark of 57.74 seconds in the 100 back while finishing in 2:04.26 in the 200 back.

The Eagles will open up the home campaign next week with a pair of MAC matchups.  The University of Akron will head to Jones Natatorium first, squaring off with the Eagles Friday, Oct. 31 at 5 p.m.  The next afternoon, the Bobcats of Ohio University will come calling Saturday, Nov. 1 at 1 p.m.  Live results will be available through emueagles.com.
