EMU Tennis will head north to East Lansing to square off with the Spartans
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) - The Eastern Michigan University women's tennis team will continue non-conference play Sunday, Feb. 2, when it hits the road for a dual match with Michigan State University in East Lansing, Mich. The Eagles are currently 5-1 on the short season, while the Spartans are currently 2-1. MSU will take on Cleveland State University Friday, Jan. 31, before competing agaisnt EMU this Sunday.
Last season, the Eagles lost a heartbreaker in East Lansing at the MSU Indoor Tennis Facility. Despite winning the doubles point, Eastern Michigan could not hold off a late charge by Michigan State. The Spartans took four of the singles points to capture a 4-3 decision Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2013.
The duo of Nino Mebuke (Tbilisi, Georgia-English-Spanish School) and Klara Supejova (Prague, Czech Republic-Sportovni Gymnazium Klandno) notched a win at No. 1-doubles, while Daphne Friedrichs (Hufingen, Germany-Elisa Brandstrom Schule) and Mariya Toncheva (Burgas, Bulgaria-Sport Scholl Vasil Levski) earned the win at No 2. The Eagles, however, won just two matches on the singles side. Supejova knocked off Catherine Parenteau in three sets, while Friedrichs took down Olga Chernova in three as well. MSU's four singles victories ended up being enough for the Spartans' win.
