Softball Kicks Off 2014 at USC Upstate Tournament

The 2014 softball season will start in 9 days when the Eagles head to Spartanburg, S.C.
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University softball team is set to kick off the 2014 campaign as it travels to Spartanburg, S.C. to participate in the USC Upstate Tournament, Friday, Feb. 7 – Saturday, Feb. 8.
The Eagles will first take on Virginia at 1 p.m. before taking on host USC Upstate at 3 p.m., Friday, Feb. 7. Virginia returns nine letterwinners and five starters from last year's squad that went 21-28, while USC Upstate is the reigning A-Sun Tournament Champions as well as a 2013 NCAA Division I Tournament qualifier, going 42-12 in 2013.
The Green and White will conclude its first tournament, Saturday, Feb. 8 when it plays Towson at 10:30 a.m. and North Carolina Central at 4:30 p.m. Towson posted a 30-28 record a year ago, including going 2-1 against Mid-American Conference competition, while North Carolina Central was 5-44 on the season and returns 11 letterwinners from the 2013 campaign.
EMU holds a 5-5 overall record against Virginia, with the Eagles clinching a 6-3 victory in the two team's last meeting, Mar. 5, 1999. The USC Upstate Tournament will mark the first time Eastern has faced its other three opponents in regular season play.
