EMU Wins Fourth Straight Dual Match in 5-2 Win Over Oakland

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University women's tennis team continued its winning ways Saturday evening, Jan. 25, when it won its fourth straight dual match. The Green and White knocked off Oakland University, 5-2, at the Chippewa Racquet Club, and moved to 5-1 on the season.
The Eagles swept the doubles round with two 6-1 decisions and a 6-2 final to earn the first point of the match. Nino Mebuke and Diana Davitaia won the No. 1-doubles match, 6-1, while Mariya Toncheva and Maria Paula Ribero took the No. 2 spot, 6-1. Zsofia Biro and Daphne Friedrichs held down the No. 3 slot with a 6-1 victory.
Mebuke competed at No. 1-singles without losing a game to Karine Celis. The Tbilisi, Georgia native knocked off Celis, 6-0, 6-0. Daviataia took the No. 2-singles contest, 6-1, 7-6, defeating Tamara Blum. Toncheva played at No. 3, and took down Juliana Guevara, 6-2, 6-2. The final victory for EMU came at No. 4-singles when Friedrichs topped Rebecca Phyle, 6-2, 6-0.
The Eagles are off until Sunday, Feb. 2, when they travel to East Lansing, Mich. for a dual match with Michigan State University. The match is set for 11 a.m.
