Eagles Sweep Swimmer of the Week Awards

Cole Bateman and Jessie Godlewski honored by the MAC
CLEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) — The Mid-American Conference announced Monday, Jan. 13, that Eastern Michigan University swimmers Cole Bateman (Hutchinson, Minn.-Hutchinson) and Jessie Godlewski (Apex, N.C.-Apex) were named MAC Swimmers of the Week. The Eagle duo contributed to the Green and White's victories over Denison University, Jan. 10.
The accolade marks the first of Bateman's career, as the rookie swimmer competed in three events for the Green and White, all of which were victories in the 184-116 win over Denison. The freshman was the lead swimmer in the 200 medley relay team, which won with a 1:32.80 mark. He went on to win the 100 and 200 back, clocking in at 51.53 and 1:52.24, respectively.
Godlewski is honored for the third time in her career and the second during the 2013-14 season, as she was awarded Swimmer of the Week for the period ending Oct. 21. The junior won three events when the Eagles topped Denison, 181-118. She raced to victory in the 200 fly with a 2:04.85 mark, over three seconds ahead of the next competitor. In the 200 back, she paced all swimmers at 2:07.49, and in the 200 IM the Apex, N.C. native sprinted to an exciting down-to-the-wire victory over her teammate, clinching the win in 2:09.09. Godlewski was also a part of the 200 medley relay team that finished in 1:48.86.
Bateman and Godlewski, along with the rest of the Eagles, will be back in action Saturday, Jan. 18. Both squads will host MAC opponent the University at Buffalo and Big Ten contender Michigan State at 1 p.m. in Jones Natatorium. Live results will be available through EMUEagles.com.
