McLEAN, Va. (EMUEagles.com) –
The Eastern Michigan University softball team had a pair of members named to the 2013 District Five Capital One Academic All-District Team. Katy Blaharski (Carleton, Mich.-Airport) and Amanda Herron (Columbus, Ohio-St. Francis De Sales) were each named to the All-District Second Team Thursday, May 2, as voted on by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

The Academic All-District® teams are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada. This is the second year of the expanded Academic All-America® program as CoSIDA moved from recognizing a University Division (Division I) and a College Division (all non Division I) and has doubled the number of scholar-athletes honored. The expanded teams include NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II and NCAA Division III participants, while the College Division team combines NAIA, Canadian and two-year schools.

The Capital One Division II and III Academic All-America® program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division II and III national governance structures, to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2012-13 DII and DIII Academic All-America® teams program.

Blaharski finished the 2013 season by leading the Eagles in hitting with a .328 batting average. She led EMU in hits (57) and steals (8), while starting all 51 games this season at shortstop for her final campaign donning the Green and White.  The Carleton, Mich. native is an Exercise Science major who carries a 3.94 grade point average.

Herron hit .327 this season after starting all 51 games for Eastern. The Eagles' first baseman drove in 27 runs this season which tied for second on the team while striking out just 20 times, which is the second-least on the team. The Columbus, Ohio native reached base safely at a .413 clip, while drawing 19 walks and being hit by three pitches this season. Herron is a Chemistry major that boasts a 3.80 grade point average.
