TOLEDO, Ohio (EMUEagles.com)
– The Eastern Michigan University women's track and field team concluded its final preparation prior to the Mid-American Conference Championships with the Toledo Invitational, May 2-3. Some athletes competed to try to secure their spots at the conference championships while others, already with an automatic qualifying mark, rested to get healthy for the important meet.

The lone victory of the meet, hosted by the University of Toledo, came in the field from sophomore Lydia Gomez-Diaz.  The Tarragona, Spain native claimed the top spot in the hammer throw with a toss of 188-feet 7-inches (57.48 meters).

Five other Eagles cracked the top-five in various events, including a pair of third-places finishes. First team indoor All-MAC Vanessa Clerveaux took the bronze in the 100-meter dash, crossing the finish line in 11.96. Teammate Ellie Braidic also placed third, leading the Eagles in the pole vault with a leap of 12-feet 5.50-inches (3.80 meters). Braidic's vault was an outdoor personal-best for the freshman, and it also ties for the sixth-best outdoor leap in EMU history.

A trio donning the Green and White finished fifth in their respective events. Senior Meghan Powers finished behind Braidic in the pole vault, jumping 10-feet 11.75-inches (3.35 meters). Freshman Makeda DeBardelaben paced the Eagles in the triple jump, leaping 38-feet 9.75-inches (11.83 meters). Aaliyah McKinney tied a personal-best with a 24.42 in the 200-meter dash.

Up next for EMU are the MAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Akron, Ohio, May 9-11. The Eagles will look to claim the outdoor crown after finishing runner-up as host of the MAC Indoor Championships, Feb. 22-23.
