- Eastern Michigan University senior Asia Rawls (Waterford, Mich.-Waterford Mott) represented the EMU women's track team on day one of the NCAA East Regional in Greensboro, N.C., May 23. The senior team captain finished 30th in the preliminaries of the 400-meter hurdles, just 0.47 seconds short of qualifying for the quarterfinals. Rawls ran the race in 59.51.

Rawls ends her career at Eastern, but not without leaving a mark on the program. Two weeks ago, she claimed the conference crown in the 400-meter hurdles at the MAC Outdoor Championships, May 11, finishing in a personal-best 58.32, a time that ranks as the second-fastest time in EMU history.

The Waterford, Mich. native earned First Team All-MAC accolades four times throughout her four years donning the Green and White. While her best event was the 400 hurdles, Rawls competed in 10 different events in her EMU career.

Last season, Rawls was the lone qualifier to the NCAA National Championships, placing 23rd in the 400 hurdles after crossing the finish line in 1:01.18.

The five remaining EMU regional qualifiers will compete on day two of competition Friday, May 24. Vanessa Clerveaux, Lydia Gomez-Diaz, Tatijana Jacobson, Alysha Newman and Victoria Voronko will all be in action at Irwin Belk Track inside Aggie Stadium.
