GREENSBORO, N.C. (EMUEagles.com)
– Eastern Michigan University sophomore Victoria Voronko (Stavropol, Russia-University of Moscow) secured a spot at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships, with a school record-breaking run at the NCAA East Regional, May 24, at Aggie Stadium in Greensboro, N.C. Four Eagles also competed, including Vanessa Clerveaux (Brockton, Mass.-Brockton), who will run in the 100-meter quarterfinals on the final day of competition, May 24.

Voronko broke her own EMU record in the 3,000-meter steeplechase for the third time this season, crossing the finish line in ninth place. The MAC champion's time of 10:08.10 shattered her previous school record of 10:15.74. A top-12 finish advances Voronko to the national stage in Eugene, Ore., June 5-8.

Sophomore Lydia Gomez-Diaz (Tarragona, Spain-IES Collblanc) began the day for the Eagles, placing 18th in the hammer throw. With the top-12 advancing to Eugene, the Tarragona, Spain native just missed out on qualifying for the finals with a toss of 182-feet 3-inches (55.55 meters).

Second Team All-MAC performer Tatijana Jacobson (Woodville, Ohio-Woodmore) saw her EMU career come to an end with a leap of 5-feet 5.75-inches (1.67 meters) in the high jump. After beginning her career at fellow MAC school Bowling Green State University, Jacobson put her mark on the EMU program, rising up the chart in both the indoor and outdoor high jump. The Woodville, Ohio native holds the second-best leaps in both categories, including an indoor-best leap of 6-feet.

MAC pole vault champion Alysha Newman (Delaware, Ontario-Mother Teresa) passed on heights up until the 13-feet 1.50-inches mark (4 meters), but the freshman could not clear it, ending her sensational season in Greensboro, N.C.

Running the second-fastest time in EMU laurels, Clerveaux's time of 13.41 advanced her to the quarterfinal round of the regional meet. There are 24 runners that remain in the event with the top 12 taking their talents to the national championships.

Clerveaux takes the track tomorrow at 7:05 p.m.
