YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com)
– In game one of the pivotal, final Mid-American Conference series of the 2013 regular season, the Eastern Michigan University baseball team came up short against the University of Toledo 4-0, Thursday, May 16 at Oestrike Stadium.

EMU (25-27, 11-14 MAC) could not supply the run support needed to beat the Rockets (21-30, 12-13 MAC), as UT ace Kyle Shaw (5-7) found a groove.

Brian Hill (6-3) was charged with the loss for the Eagles, giving up 4 runs in 5.1 innings pitched.  Brian Valente contributed 3.2 innings, not allowing a run while striking out three batters.  Shaw pitched a complete game for the Rockets, only giving up four hits.

The four Eagles to record hit were: Sam Ott, Lee Longo, Adam Sonabend, and Mitchell McGeein.  Toledo's Tyler Grogg, James Miglin, and Anthony Smith each hit 2-of-4, Smith driving in one the Rockets' four runs batted in.

The Rockets tallied a pair of runs in the top of the third. Following a single, a double and a walk to load the bases with nobody out, Hill was able to get UT right fielder Brian Callahan to ground into a double play; however a run scored. The very next pitch, designated hitter Ben Hammer lined a single to left to score another Rocket, giving Toledo an early, 2-0, lead.

Toledo tagged on two more runs three innings later. Back-to-back doubles increased the lead to three, and an added single put runners on the corners with only one out. Another single, bringing in a run, forced Hill out of the game as the Rockets built the lead to 4-0. With two runners still on base, Brian Valente relieved Hill to retire the two batters he faced to get the Eagles out of the jam.

The Green and White continue battling the Rockets tomorrow night, May 17. Game two from Oestrike Stadium is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
