DES MOINES, Iowa. (EMUEagles.com)
– The Eastern Michigan University women's track and field team has athletes competing in two different three-day meets, and day one of the Hillsdale-Gina Relays and the Drake Relays brought some excitement for EMU, specifically at Ken Herrick Track in Des Moines, Iowa.

Sophomore Victoria Voronko broke her second EMU record of the 2012-13 campaign, finishing the 5,000-meter run at the Drake Relays in 16:22.05, three seconds better than the old record held by Carrie Gould. Gould ran a16:25.45 back in 1999, but her 14-year old time at the top of the EMU record books comes to an end after Voronko's performance Thursday.

If this record-breaking run sounds eerily familiar, that is because Voronko shattered the indoor school record in the 3,000-meter run, crossing the finish line in 9:23.33 at the SPIRE Invitational, Feb. 9. Coincidentally, the previous top mark in EMU history was 9:32.61 set by Gould back in 1999.

On day one of the Hillsdale-Gina Relays, Cara Smock and Amy Frauhammer ran the 5,000-meter run in personal-best times of 18:05.01 and 18:15.88, respectively. Smock placed 10th while Frauhammer ended the race in 18th place.

Competition will continue for the Green and White with day two of both the Drake Relays and the Hillsdale-Gina Relays Friday, April 26.
