The Eastern Michigan University softball team was held scoreless in its annual Knock Cancer Out of the Park game Saturday, April 20, as they dropped a 4-0 decision to Bowling Green State University. The Eagles (12-28-1, 2-11 MAC) were held to just four hits, while Bowling Green (22-17, 6-9 MAC) scored four runs on four hits.

Lauren Wells (Lowell, Indiana-Lowell) was charged with the loss after starting her 14th game of the season. Wells (0-17) tossed the opening 5.1 innings and was touched for four runs, three earned, on four hits and four walks. Lindsay Rich (Perrysburg, Ohio-Perrysburg) threw 1.2 hitless innings in relief for EMU. Jamie Kertes (9-10) made the start for Bowling Green tossing a complete game and walking just one batter and scattering just four hits.

Jenn Lucas (Pinckney, Mich.-Pinckney) was the only Eagle to post a multi-hit game, going 2-for-3, while Courtney Loe (Temperance, Mich-Bedford) and Katy Blaharski (Carlenton, Mich.-Airport) each had hits, with Blaharski's being her sixth double of 2013.

Runs were at a premium early with the first tally coming in the third inning. The Falcons were first to cross the plate when Hannah Fulk stole third, but then was able make it home on an errant throw by the catcher, Loe, putting BGSU up 1-0.

The Eagles could not register a hit until the bottom of the third, when Blaharski doubled to deep left centerfield. She did not remain on-base as she got caught in a pickle and was tagged out mid-way between second and third base..

Wells walked a pair of runners on in the top of the fifth and with one out Katie Yoho launched a 3-2 pitch deep to centerfield, clearing the fence and putting the Falcons up 4-0 where the score remained throughout the rest of the game.

With one out in the sixth, Wells allowed two runners on with one out before she was lifted, allowing Rich to take the mound in the top of the sixth. With runners at first and second the Eagles escaped the inning without allowing another run thanks in part to a great throw from Loe to catch Lexie Valone stealing.

Saturday's contest was the fifth annual Knock Cancer Out of the Park game as well as Eastern's Alumni Game. The annual fundraiser has generated over $20,000 for cancer research while the game drew the largest crowd of the season with more than 250 fans in attendance.

The Green and White will host the Falcons again, Sunday, April 21, at 1 p.m. when it will look to spilt the season series with the MAC East opponent.
