YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – Instead of a warm, sunny evening in the middle of April, the weather on day one of the Eastern Michigan University Twilight was more like the middle of November as the EMU women's track and field team battled the tough conditions along with competitors from other schools, April 19.
Sophomore Victoria Voronko won the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:30.24, a personal-best time that overtakes teammate Morgan Churchwell's time of 4:31.28 as the fastest mark in the Mid-American Conference. Senior Rachel Quaintance followed Voronko in 11th place with a 4:45.52 while Marina Manjon-Rivadulla crossed the finish line 13th in 4:47.27. Cara Smock, Amy Frauhammer and Brooke Sciullo rounded out the race for the Eagles, finishing 23rd, 28th and 32nd, respectively.
In the 400-meter hurdles, Shante Jackson took 12th with a 1:06.91. To round out day one, Kayla Pfund placed 15th in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 18:33.48.
