EMU and Concordia meet for first time since 2006

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University baseball team looks to shake off a three-game losing skid with a home non-conference tilt against Concordia University Tuesday, March 26. First pitch is slated for 3 p.m. at Oestrike Stadium.

Tuesday's game between the Eagles (9-12; 0-3 MAC) and the Cardinals (3-13; 2-4 WHAC) will mark EMU's third crack at playing a home game, as previous attempts against Northern Kentucky and Michigan were each canceled due to cold weather. In 2012, the Eagles went 12-6 at Oestrike Stadium and look to dominate once again in their home ballpark, where they have recorded a winning record in 35-of-41 years.

SCOUTING THE CARDINALS: Concordia is off to a rough 3-13 start to the 2013 campaign which includes a 2-4 mark in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) play. EMU has met up with its NAIA counterpart five times and has won on each occasion. The last meeting was April 4, 2006, when the Eagles came out 9-3 victors at home.

HOME OPENER RECENT HISTORY: Since 2006, the Eagles are 4-3 in the first game of the season at Oestrike Stadium. Last season, the Green and White won a wild 19-10 slugfest over Niagara, March 16, to open the 2012 home slate. The Eagles finished the year with a 12-6 record in games played in Ypsilanti.

EMU had a hard time getting its opening game underway in 2008, as the first six home games of the season were forced to be postponed due to inclement weather. After having to cancel its entire opening series with Kent State, Eastern Michigan finally won both games of a doubleheader against Miami, March 29.

OESTRIKE STADIUM'S BRAND NEW LOOK: Now in its 42nd year of existence, Oestrike Stadium has received several critical upgrades including an all-new brick facade around the stadium, a new fence surrounding the outfield and a completely remodeled locker room with brand new locker stations for each player. In addition, former EMU baseball standout and current manager of the New York Mets, Terry Collins, has donated money for a new scoreboard to grace left-center field.

Since the stadium opened in 1971, EMU has tallied just six losing seasons, while compiling a staggering 485 victories (485-327-2) for a .597 winning percentage. The Eagles recorded 19 wins at Oestrike Stadium in 2006 –the most wins at home by EMU in school history.

HAWKED: For the first time since 2009, the Eagles suffered a three-game sweep to open the MAC season when they fell to Miami University, March 22-23, in Oxford, Ohio. EMU was shutout, 4-0, in the opener and could not hold leads in either game of Saturday's doubleheader. At the dish, the Green and White hit just .220 collectively, while the RedHawks hit at a .387 clip against Eagles' pitchers.

ONE IS PLENTY: The Eagles have gone 2-12 in games played as doubleheaders so far this season. Their only victories in double dips were a 10-6 win over Campbell, Feb. 15, and a 15-9 drubbing of Northern Kentucky, March 16.
