Eagles Finish Tied for Eighth at Pinehurst Intercollegiate

Spencer Slade and Stuart Grehan each tie for ninth place with a 222
PINEHURST, N.C. (EMUEagles.com) -- At the end of the final day of competition of the Pinehurst Intercollegiate, the Eastern Michigan University men's golf team finished in a tie with the University of Toledo for eighth place in the 16-team competition. EMU concluded the tournament with a total score of 915 (299-317-299) at the par-71, 6,832 course of Pinehurst No. 6.
Stuart Grehan (Tullamore, Ireland-Colaiste Choilm) and Spencer Slade (Saline, Mich.-Saline-Savannah State) tied for ninth place with a 54-hole total of 222. It marked the first career top-10 showing for Grehan and second of the year for Slade.
No. 43 ranked Ball State took home the team title with a three-round team score of 885. VCU, Richmond, Winthrop and UNCG rounded out the top five team finishers. Tyler Merkel won the overall individual title with a total of 214. He just barely edged out VCU's Adam Ball who finished one behind at 215. Richmond's Daniel Walker took home third place honors with a three-round total of 216.
The Eagles will be back in action March 24-25 when they travel to the Kingsmill Intercollegiate in Williamsburg, Va.
