MAC Women's Swimming Championship Central
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -The Eastern Michigan University women's swimming and diving team is primed to compete in the Mid-American Conference Championships, Feb. 28-March 3. The Eagles (7-0, 5-0 MAC) will return to Buffalo, N.Y. where they made school history just a month ago. The championship tournament will be hosted by University at Buffalo in the Alumni Arena Natatorium. The event's gun will sound at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, Feb. 28.
At last season's MAC Championships in Akron, Ohio, the Eagles placed fifth scoring 392 points. The University of Toledo took first place scoring 635 throughout the three day event. Three EMU swimmers were honored during last year's tournament. Briana Emig and Kelly Hendricks were both named All-MAC First Team, and Jessie Godlewski received an All-MAC Second Team nod. Coach Buck Smith was named 2012 MAC Women's Diving Coach of the Year.
The Eagles have captured first place at the MAC Championship two times in the 33 year history of the event. The Green and White took top honors in 2005 and 2006.
Undefeated in duel-meets for the first time in program history, this year's team is poised to make successful showing at MAC Championships. Returning leaders Emig, Hendricks, and Godlewski are joined by strong competitors Helena Tolic, Lauren Dark, and Sara Ghaffari, who have all found success when facing MAC opponents this season.
