Emig Takes 500-Free, Eagles in Third After Day One

Briana Emig won the 500-freestyle while EMU sits in third place at the MAC Championships
BUFFALO, N.Y. (EMUEagles.com) – After the first day of the 2013 Mid-American Conference Women's Swimming and Diving Championships, the Eastern Michigan University women's swimming and diving team sits in third place with 155 points.
Leading the way in the meet is Miami University (191), while Ohio University sits in second (172), EMU third (155), University at Buffalo is fourth (147), Bowling Green State University is fifth (136), University of Toledo in sixth (109), Akron University is seventh (96) and Ball State University rounds out the field in ninth (87).
Briana Emig opened won the 500-freestyle, touching the wall in 4:46.17, over a second ahead of the second place finisher. Audra Burtch took eighth with a 4:57.30 to garner 11 more points for EMU in the first individual final of the evening session. Jacquelyn Swartz took eighth in the 200-individual medley with a 2:05.16.
The Eagles made their mark on the diving board, finishing 1-2 in the one-meter dive with Danielle Hulvey scoring a 316.10, which was a new MAC record, while Kelly Hendricks also broke the previous MAC mark with a 314.85. Lauren Dark took eighth in the one-meter dive with a 271.60.
Action continues Friday, March 1, at the UB Natatorium. The action is set to get underway at 11 a.m. from Buffalo, N.Y.
