SOUTH BEND, Ind. (EMUEagles.com)
–  In its first two-day meet of the season, the Eastern Michigan University women's track and field team competed at the Meyo Invitational, a non-scored meet featuring some of the nation's best track and field athletes, Feb. 1-2.

Eight top-10 finishes highlighted the action-packed two days including a runner-up finish by the EMU distance medley team. Morgan Churchwell, Asia Rawls, Marina Manjon-Rivadulla and Victoria Voronko combined for a time of 11:33.89, the third best mark in EMU history. Rawls broke the top-10 individually, finishing in ninth place in the 400-meter dash with a 55.76.

Voronko also turned in a personal-best 4:48.57 for sixth place in the “Meyo” Mile, an invitation-only race that featured the best distance runners at the meet. Her time also is the top mark in the Mid-American Conference this season. In the other one-mile run, Manjon-Rivadulla took eighth in 4:55.56 which ranks as the ninth-fastest time in EMU history.

Freshman Vanessa Clerveaux continued to improve on her strong season, crossing the finish line in a career-best 8.31, good enough for third place in the meet as well as the third best mark in the Eastern record books.

In field events, team co-captain Tatijana Jacobson leaped 5-feet, 6 inches for fourth place in the high jump. Freshman Alysha Newman posted a 12-feet, 3.50-inches vault in the pole vault for sixth.  Another freshman, current EMU record-holder Brittany Crew, took seventh in the shot put with a toss of 49-feet, 0.25-inches.

EMU will split up for a pair of events next week, Feb. 8-9. While some Eagles will flock back to Allendale, Mich. for the Grand Valley State University “Big Meet,” others will head south for the SPIRE Invitational in Geneva, Ohio.
