GENEVA, Ohio and ALLENDALE, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan women's track and field team competed in both the SPIRE Invitational and the Grand Valley State University Big Meet this weekend, Feb. 8-9.
EMU's Victoria Voronko shattered the school record in the 3,000-meter run, crossing the finish line in 9:23.33. The sophomore shattered the previous mark of 9:32.61 set by Carrie Gould back in 1999. Also at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio, freshman Vanessa Clerveaux took fifth in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.32.
In Allendale, Mich. at the GVSU Big Meet, the Eagles turned in three of top-10 finishes. The 4x400-meter relay team of Danielle Clark, Aaliyah McKinney, Morgan Yeadon and Latipha Cross ran in 3:48.35 for fifth place in the race. Kate Wolanin finished fifth in the pentathlon with a score of 3333, and Rebecca Quaintance recorded a 1:38.55 in the 600-meter run, good enough for an eighth place finish.
The Green and White will be back on the track, Feb. 16, for the Silverston Invitational at the University of Michigan.
