Green and White Leads by Slim Margin After Day One

Women's swimming and diving holds command of the EMU Invitational
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com)--After a day of competition, the Eastern Michigan University women's swimming and diving team is leading the way in the EMU Invitational with 344 points. Oakland University is closely behind with 341 points, followed by Wayne State University with 303 points.
The afternoon began with a victory for the Green and White, as redshirt-junior Melynee Saya (Nashua, N.H.-Nashua) claimed a first-place finish on the 3-meter springboard with her score of 280.90.
Three second-place finishes would come before the Eagles claimed another winning time. Freshman Grace Van Allen (Indianapolis, Ind.-Central) was runner-up in the 1650 free with a time of 17:21.17, sophomore Becca Detro (Carmel, Ind.-Carmel) swam a season-best 52.25 in the 100 free, and Monica Dorszewski (Palatine, Ill.-Palatine) was the second to touch in for the 200 breast.
Junior Jessie Godlewski (Apex, N.C.-Apex) had a season-best finish in the 200 fly, as her time of 2:02.03 gave her a first-place finish in the event. The day concluded with one final win for the Eagles as the 400 free relay team of Detro, Godlewski, junior Sara Ghaffari (Bolinas, Sweden-Torsbergsgynasiet) and sophomore Mary Kate MacLean (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.-Detroit Country Day) finished with a 3:25.67 mark.
The squad will continue with the EMU Invitational Saturday, Dec. 7 at 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. in Jones Natatorium.
