Annual practice meet and fundraiser will occupy Jones Natatorium, Oct. 5
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — The Eastern Michigan University men's and women's swimming team will hold their annual Green and White meet Saturday, Oct. 5, in Jones Natatorium. Following the meet, the diving team will host a "Clown and Stunt Show," which is an entertainment fundraiser for the team, at 5 p.m.
The Green and White meet is an intrasquad event that simulates the competition that the Eagles will face in the upcoming 2013-14 campaign. It has been used for years as a tune-up before the season begins, and this year's meet is no different as the team will look to prepare for their upcoming lid lifter at Northwestern University, Oct. 18. The men will square off against the Wildcats, while the women will take on two Big Ten competitors in both the Wildcats and the Fighting Illini of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
After the swimmers exit the pool, the diving team will take over for their annual fundraiser. According to junior diver Matt Ventura (Lakewood, Ohio-St. Edward), the venue will kick off with the divers plunging into the pool from the rafters of Jones Natatorium, roughly a 55-foot drop. The team then performs a variety of diving stunts, holds a raffle, and hosts fire juggling and other spectacles. Along with the EMU divers, there will also be coaches and friends that were past divers participating in the show.
The Green and White meet is slated to begin at 1 p.m. and the Clown and Stunt Show will have a 5 p.m. start and a $5 entry fee. Any interested members of the public are encouraged to join the team in Jones Natatorium for the evening exhibition.
