YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com)
-- Eastern Michigan University's women's swimming and diving team opened up Mid-American Conference competition with a dual meet win over Bowling Green State University, defeating the Falcons,166-126, Saturday, Oct. 26.  The Eagles advance to 1-0 (1-0 MAC), while the Falcons fall to 0-1 (0-1 MAC).    With the win, the Green and White currently have a six-conference dual meet win streak after completing the 2012-13 season unblemished in MAC competition.

The squad nabbed nine first-place finishes out of the afternoon's 16 events against the Falcons.  In the distance freestyle events, sophomore Audra Burtch (Goshen, Ind.-Concord) paced all swimmers in the 1000 free, touching in at 10:27.04.  Newcomer Allison Murslack (Gibsonia, Pa.-Pine-Richland) followed closely after for a second-place finish in the event with a 10:33.53 mark.  In the 500 free, freshman Grace Van Allen (Indianapolis, Ind.-North Central) claimed the winning time with a 5:06.07 mark as Burtch touched in almost immediately after at 5:06.14.

The Eagles also claimed first-place performances in both of the butterfly events.  Defending MAC Swimmer of the Week Jessie Godlewski (Apex, N.C.-Apex) shone in the 200 fly, finishing in 2:04.33 and was backed up by freshman Carly Jackson (La Porte, Ind.-La Porte), who later won the 100 fly with a time of 56.75.  Godlewski was also the first swimmer to touch in for the 200 backstroke at 2:06.53.

Junior Monica Dorszewski (Palatine, Ill.-Palatine) and freshman Genna Worthley (Portland, Maine-Deering) dominated both the breaststroke events.  Dorszewski churned out two first-place performances in the 100 and 200 breast with times of 1:04.44 and 2:19.48, while Worthley claimed both runner-up finishes with a 1:04.60 mark in the 100 breast and a 2:22.80 mark in the 200 breast.

Junior Lauren Dark (Chelsea, Mich.-Chelsea) led the way for the Green and White in the diving events, earning a score of 276.23 on the 1-meter springboard and a 267.38 on the 3-meter springboard.

By the time the Eagles reached their last event, the 400 freestyle relay, they had already secured their 166-126 win over the Falcons.  All teams for the Eagles swam as exhibition performances and the team of Godlewski, Van Allen, sophomore Becca Detro (Carmel, Ind.-Carmel), and freshman Makenzie Garringer (Napoleon, Ohio-Napoleon) finished with a time of 3:29.57, which would have been good for a first-place finish had the team competed in the event for points.

EMU will host the University of Akron, Saturday, Nov. 2 in Jones Natatorium for the second MAC matchup of the season.  The meet will start at 1 p.m.
