Novice 8+ Team Earns Top Finish at the Head of the Grand

Rowing has strong finish at the Head of the Grand, Sunday, Oct. 20.
LANSING, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University rowing team completed the Head of the Grand, Sunday, Oct. 20 at Grand River Park. The race was hosted by the Michigan State Club Rowing Team.
Due to a timing system malfunction, results were delayed for the race that concluded Sunday afternoon.
The Eagles saw their first win of the 2013-14 season as the novice 8+ team paced the field, finishing at 11:14.00, just one second ahead of the MSU C team. The winning team consisted of Autumn Little (Taylor, Mich.-Riverview Community), Eliizabeth Caudill (Ypsilanti, Mich.-Calvary Christian Academy), Taylor Parker (Galloway, N.J.-Absegami), Kaitlyn Maguire (Dayton, Ohio- Vandalia Butler), Lilah McAllister (Cincinnati, Ohio-Walnut Hills), Steph Schlosser (Mason, Ohio-Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy), Emily Burks (Flushing, Mich.-Flushing) and coxswain Tauan Jeffrey (Grove City, Ohio-Fort Hayes)
The varsity eight team had a strong day as it picked up a fourth-place finish behind three Michigan State teams. The Green and White varsity 8+ A team, which held coxswain Sarah Hillegonds (Ann Arbor, Mich.-Ann Arbor Huron) as well as Emily Kent (Ypsilanti, Mich.-Ann Arbor Huron), Ashley Gilmore (Arlington, Wash.-Lakewood), KC Anderson (Garden City, Mich.-Garden City), Stacy Cloutier (Taylor, Mich.-Truman), Lyndsey Tollas (Hicksville, Ohio-Hicksville), Krista Burdick (Ypsilanti, Mich.-Ypsilanti), Sidney Doss (Grass Lake, Mich.-Grass Lake), and Meghan Knox (Ann Arbor, Mich.-Skyline), earned a time of 10:45.25.
The varsity eight B team finished eighth in its second race of the season as it crossed the line at 12:00.00, just 6.87 seconds behind seventh place finisher Michigan Tech. The B boat consisted of Tijana Milovanovic (Novi Sad, Serbia-Gimnazija Jovanovic Zmaj), LeAnn Dimitroff (Northville, Mich.-Northville), Elizabeth Caudill (Ypsilanti, Mich.-Calvary Christian Academy), Tara Sholtz (Ypsilanti, Mich.-St. Clair), Kaitie Keys (Canton, Mich.-Plymouth), Danielle Keen (Onsted, Mich.-Onsted), Caitlyn Mcguire (Dayton, Ohio-Vandalia Butler), Allison Pecaut (Riverview, Fla.-Riverview) and coxswain Jeffrey.
In 4+ boats, the novice team had another successful race as it clinched a fourth-place finish with a time of 12:57.25. Northern Michigan picked up the first-place finish in the novice 4+, while Grand Valley placed second. Jeffrey helped the team to a fourth-place finish in her first of three races on the day with teammates Burdick, Doss, Knox, and freshman Samantha Allen (Pomona, N.J.-Absegami).
The varsity four team posted a season-best fifth place finish to conclude the Head of the Grand. The final boat, holding Gilmore, Kent, Anderson, Tollas and coxswain Pecault, grabbed a time of 12:11.00.
"They started to calm down and we are starting to close in on some top-10 programs in the country. Overall we were very pleased with what we saw today and are looking forward to the spring season," said Head Coach Brad Holdren.
Eastern will take a week break before heading to the Head of the Hooch on Saturday, Nov. 2 in Chattanooga, Tenn. The race will mark the fifth consecutive year that the Eagles have participated, its best finish coming in 2012 when the novice four team earned a second-place finish.
