Four Wrestlers Make Regular Season Debut in Win at Seton Hill

EMU faces No. 12 Pittsburgh, No. 24 Bloomsburg and Lock Haven at Pitt Duals Sunday
GREENSBURG, Pa. (EMUEagles.com) — The Eastern Michigan University wrestling team won its first bout of 2013, 40-11, over Seton Hill Saturday afternoon, Jan. 12. Four grapplers made their regular-season debut for an EMU squad which improved to 5-6 on the season.
Freshman Alexander Calandrino made the most of his first-career dual-meet action, starting the Eagles off with a pin at the 2:00 mark of the 125 lbs. match against Trey Constable.
Redshirt sophomore Jake Byers recorded his first regular-season win of the year despite not seeing the mat as a result of a Griffins' forfeit. Michael Shaw improved his dual record to 1-2 with a pin at 141 lbs. over Levi Catalfu at the 2:09 mark to give EMU a commanding 18-0 lead.
Seton Hill won three of the next four matches, but the Eagles remained ahead, 22-11, with three matches left. Chris Rau (157 lbs.) and Alan Constable (174 lbs.) each came up empty in their first regular-season competition of the year, but Jacob Dorulla scored a major decision at 165 lbs. for his 10th win overall and fifth in regular-season action.
Eastern Michigan benefited from two more forfeits before Chris Eggert pinned Eric Minerd at 4:08 of the heavyweight match to give the Eagles a convincing 40-11 win.
The Eagles have a quick turnaround and will face a pair of nationally-ranked opponents Sunday, Jan. 13, at the Pitt Duals in Pittsburgh, Pa. Awaiting EMU are No. 12 Pittsburgh, No. 24 Bloomsburg and Lock Haven. Action begins at 10 a.m.
