YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – Freshman Brittany Crew broke her own school record in the shot put as the Eastern Michigan University women's track and field team downed the University of Akron and the University at Buffalo in the EMU Triangular on Bob Parks Track inside Bowen Field House.
EMU's 119 points were good enough for the top team spot as Akron and Buffalo finished with 92 points and 75 points, respectively.
The Green and White won 8-of-14 events throughout the evening, including two victories from both Vanessa Clerveaux and Victoria Voronko. Clerveaux finished at the top of the podium in the 60-meter dash (7.63) and the 60-meter hurdles (8.38). In the distance races, Voronko was victorious in the One-Mile race (4:55), while also taking home a 26-second victory in the 3000-meter run with a time of 9:53.97. In the mile, Morgan Churchwell took second in 4:56.89.
After shattering the 22-year old EMU record in the shot put at the Eagle Holiday Meet, Dec. 7, Crew rewrote the record books again with a 15.67-meter (51-feet, 5-inches) toss in this evening's event. The freshman's two record-breaking throws have been good enough for victories in both meets to start her collegiate career.
Freshman Morgan Yeadon finished runner-up behind teammates in the 60-meter dash and the 200-meter dash. Fellow Eagle Danielle Clark took home the 200-meter dash in 25.46.
Tatijana Jacobson took first with a 1.75-meter (5-feet, 8.75-inches) leap in the high jump, her second victory in as many meets. Asia Rawls also raced to a first-place finish in the 400-meter dash with a time of 56.57.
WInning both home meets over six opponents to start the season, Eastern travels to Ann Arbor, Jan. 19, to compete in the Harvey-Simmons Invitational.
