Eagles See Two First Place Finishes at Simmons-Harvey Invite

Cross brings home her first career win
ANN ARBOR, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University women's track and field team competed at the Simmons-Harvey Invitational hosted by the University of Michigan Saturday, Jan. 19. The Eagles saw a lot of top-three finishes, including a pair of victories at the U-M Indoor Track Building.
Latipha Cross was the first athlete from Eastern to win an event, taking the 400-meter dash in 58.28, while the other top-finisher was the 4x400-meter relay team of Danielle Clark, Morgan Yeadon, Aaliyah McKinney and Asia Rawls who completed the race in 3:49.81, nearly three seconds ahead of the second place team.
Yeadon took fifth in the 60-meter dash in 7.77 and fifth in the 200-meter dash in 25.56. Clark completed the 200-meter dash in 25.10, good for second place. Iesha Hardiman placed fourth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 58.90.
Marina Manjon Rivadulla saw a fourth place finish in the 800-meter run in 2:14.77 and that was EMU's only top-five finish in the mid-distance races. Cara Smock notched a fourth place finish with Amy Frauhammer taking fifth in the 3,000-meter run for Eastern. Smock crossed the finish line in 11:00.32, while Frauhammer completed the race in 11:03.81.Vanessa Clerveaux took second in the 60-meter hurdles with a finish of 8.40.
In the field events, Tatijana Jacobson leapt 5-feet and 8.75-inches in the high jump, good for second place, while Alysha Newman's 12-foot and 3.50-inch leap earned her second place, while Ellie Braidic had a leap of 12-feet and 3.50 inches also. Tiara Oates jumped 17-feet and 11.75-inches in the long jump, good for second, while Makeda DeBardelaben's jump of 17-feet and 9.75-inches took third. DeBardelaben also took second in the triple jump with a 35-foot and 1.25-inch bound.
The Eagles hit the track again Saturday, Jan. 26, when they travel to Allendale, Mich. To take part in the Grand Valley Quad.
