Volleyball Defeats North Texas in Five Sets

Kristen Baker registers 16 kills to lead the Eagle to victory

DENTON, Texas (EMUEagles.com) - It took five sets but the Eastern Michigan University volleyball team remained unbeaten at the Mean Green Invitational following a 3-2 win over host North Texas Friday night.

For Eastern, the Eagles improve to 8-2 on the season and 2-1 in five set matches.

The Eagles and Mean Green exchanged the first four sets after North Texas won the first.  EMU finally broke the pattern winning back-to-back sets when it counted late in the match.

After rallying from two points down late in the fifth set, the Eagles went on a run to push the score to 15-15.  Following an EMU point to go up one, EMU finished off the Mean Green after a rally that saw the final North Texas attack land wide.

Eastern was led by the junior Paige Roback and the senior duo of Kristen Baker and Rachel Iaquaniello, all of which recorded 10-plus kills each.  Alyssa Davis turned in the second most assists of her young career as she set up the Eagles hitters 49 times.

The Eagles have two more matches at North Texas, as EMU will take on Hofstra, Saturday at 9 AM (CST), and Oral Roberts at 1 PM (CST).
