Voronko places third to pace the Eagles in the Women's Gold Race

SOUTHBEND, Ind. (EMUEagles.com) –
Eastern Michigan University's Women's Cross Country team took fourth place with a team score of 134 Friday evening at the 57th running of the Notre Dame Invitational.  The Eagles took part in the women's gold race that saw competition from throughout the Midwest.

The Eagles were led by Victoria Voronko who turned in a third place finish.  Voronko finished in 17:32 to take third in the first of two women's races.  The finish marks the fourth time in 2012 that Voronko has led the way for EMU.

Rounding out the top five and scoring for the Eagles were Kayla Pfund, Rachel Quaintance, Morgan Churchwell and Rebecca Quaintance, placing 17th, 19th, 24th and 71st respectively.

Agnes Kemboi of TCU took the individual title in the gold race with a time of 16:53, as TCU took the team title with a score of 62.

The Eagles will be back in action Saturday, October 13 as Eastern will compete at the 2012 NCAA Pre-Nationals hosted by the University of Louisville.  The Eastern University will have both teams running at the event, the women will run at 10:15 AM and the men running prior, at 10:15 AM.
