ZIONSVILLE, Ind. (EMUEagles.com) – Making his Eastern Michigan University debut, senior Spencer Slade (Saline, Mich.-Saline-Savannah State) recorded a top-10 showing, finishing in seventh place finish at the Wolf Run Intercollegiate here at the par 71, 7,195-yard Wolf Run Golf Club, Sept. 15-16.
The Saline, Mich. native carded a 75 in the final round to finish with an even-par 213 (66-72-75). Slade, who was previously on the EMU roster during the 2008-09 roster but never played in a tournament, returned to the lineup in storybook fashion with an opening round score of 66. His marked the first time since 2011 that an Eagle has posted a round of 66-or-better. The last EMU student-athlete to record the feat was Casey Olsen (Okemos, Mich.-Okemos), who notched a 66 in the second round of the Windon Memorial, Oct. 16, 2011.
As a team, the Eagles finished eighth place with a team score of 888 (294-297-297) as the University of Illinois took home the invitational hardware with an 855 (289-278-288). Indiana's Brant Peaper captured medalist honors with an 11-under 202 (65-70-67).
Junior Brian Churchill-Smith (Oakville, Ontario, Canada-Oakville Trafalgar) tied for 31st place with a 223 (78-71-74), while Olsen managed a 36th place tie with a 225 (74-76-75). Sophomore Brian Burt (Dimondale, Mich.-Holt) shot a 227 (76-78-73) to tie for 47th place, while senior Brad Altenhoff (Oakville, Ontario, Canada-White Oaks Secondary) finished the tournament tied for 79th with a 250 (85-80-85).
The Eagles are next in action Sept. 23-24 at the Windon Memorial in Skokie, Ill.
