Churchill-Smith Tied for Third at Canadian Amateur

Churchill-Smith sits at six-under after a pair of rounds

Cumberland, Ontario, Canada (EMUEagles.com) – After two rounds in the 2012 Canadian Men's Amateur Championship the Eastern Michigan University men's golf team has been well represented in the field. The Eagles have five student-athletes competing in the tournament as Brian Churchill-Smith, Derek East, Brad Altenhoff, Peter Sauerbrei and Zach MacDougall are each partaking in the tournament at the Camelot Golf and Country Club in Cumberland, Ontario, Canada.

Churchill-Smith is leading EMU squad members as he is six-under after two rounds (67+71=138) and is tied for third place. East is sitting tied for 35th place with a score of one-over (71+73=144) while Sauerbrei and MacDougall are tied for 38th with a two-over (72+74=146). Altenhoff was cut from the competition after shooting 11-over in the first two rounds.

Third round competition started at 10 a.m., Aug. 9, and will continue through 12:01 p.m. The winner of the Canadian Men's Amateur Championship earns an exemption into the 2013 RBC Canadian Open and 2012 US Amateur. More than a century old, the Men's Amateur is the most prestigious amateur event in Canada.
