Eagles Fall in UIC Invitational Opener, 3-0

Eastern dropped a straight set match to IPFW
CHICAGO, Ill. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University volleyball team dropped its opening match at the University of Illinois-Chicago Invitational Friday, Aug. 31. Eastern fell in straight sets to the IPFW Mastadons, 25-17, 25-20, and 25-21.
The Eagles fell to 4-2, while IPFW advanced to 4-1.
Rachel Iaquaniello (Plymouth, Mich.-Dearborn Divine Child) paced the EMU offense with 17 kills. As a team the Eagles hit .087 (34-23-126) while IPFW was able to post a .252 attack percentage (49-16-131). Alyssa Davis (Kalamazoo, Mich.-Plainwell) setup the Eastern offense by contributing 29 assists in the loss.
The Eagles struggled in the opening set hitting just .071 (12-9-42).
Iaquaniello notched five kills and Davis posted 10 assists. The Mastodons were able to hit .371 (16-3-35) en route to the 25-17 set win over EMU.
Iaquaniello earned a .375 attack percentage (6-0-16) while Davis notched 11 assists. IPFW hit .280 (19-5-50) as they took the second set 25-20.
Iaquaniello added six more kills in the final set of the match as EMU fell 25-21.
The Eagles have a pair of matches Saturday, Sept. 1. Eastern opens up the day with a 10 a.m. (CST) match with Texas-Arlington and finish out the tournament with host UIC at 7 p.m. (CST), Saturday Evening.
