Eagles Blanked At Notre Dame In Five Innings

EMU falls 10-0 on the road in South Bend, Ind.
SOUTH BEND, Ind. (EMUEagles.com) —The Eastern Michigan University softball team lost to host Notre Dame this evening, May 2, falling in five innings after being blanked by the Fighting Irish, 10-0. The Eagles fall to 21-32 on the year, while Notre Dame moves to 33-13.
The Eagles were outhit 8-to-4 and committed five errors in the contest, which lead to their downfall on the road.
Jenna Ignowski threw five innings and gave up eight hits while striking out four to fall to 11-10 on the year.
ND's Laura Winter got the win and improved to 23-8 on the season, striking out seven in the contest.
Offensively, Jessica Richards, McKenna Russ, Amanda Stanton and Courtney Nicholson each tallied hits on the day.
The home team took its first lead of the contest in the bottom of the first on sacrifice fly, before Brittany O'Connor drove in two runs on her single through the left side. The Fighting Irish increased their lead in the second on a fielder's choice and a Dani Miller RBI-single to left.
The Eagles moved runners in scoring position after Courtney Loe reached on a fielding error and Nicholson connected on a base knock to left. Richards followed with her lone hit up the middle to load the bases with one out, but Katy Blaharski flied into a double play to end the inning.
Notre Dame concluded its run production with a five-run, third inning. The home team took advantage of three EMU errors and belted three hits to take a 10-0 lead.
The Green and White had no response at the plate, allowing Notre Dame to coast to a 10-0 win in five at home.
The Eagles close out their regular season this weekend when they trek to Central Michigan for a pair of games, May 5-6. First pitch for Saturday's game is set for 2 p.m.
