EMU had five top finishes at the event held by Michigan State

EAST LANSING, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University women's track and field team competed in the 2012 Spartan Invitational this weekend, April 6-7, at Michigan State University. The Eagles had great success, including five first place finishes at the two-day event.
On the track the Green and White made its living in the top-five of the short distance events. Shantavia Williams was able to capture a first place finish in the 200-meter dash with a 24.06 finish, while Beverly Elcock took first in the 400-meter dash in 56.82. Asia Rawls was the top-finisher in the 400-meter hurdles after completing the race in 59.65 which ranks as the sixth-best time in Eastern Michigan's history.
EMU was successful in the pair of relays, winning both the 4x100-meter and 4x400-meter. Danielle Clark, ReJeana Margina, Williams and Rosie White were the members of the 4x100-meter team that took the top-spot in 46.02, while Williams, Rawls, Elcock and Margina took first in the 4x400 with a 3:42.38 finish.
In the field events captain Tatijana Jacobson placed fifth in the high jump after leaping five-feet and 3.25-inches, while White placed second in the long jump with an 18-feet and 7.25-inch bound. Ebony Mundy's 31-foot and 1.75-inch leap in the triple jump was good for fourth place, while Lydia Gomez-Diaz took second in the hammer throw with a 187-feet and five-inch toss.
The Eagles continue the outdoor portion of their 2012 schedule with the Jesse Owens Invitational, Friday-Saturday, April 13-14, in Columbus, Ohio.
